Sean Lim is a Swiss-trained, London-based Singaporean clarinettist with broad international concert experience and expertise in education, outreach work, and artist development. He was a member of the Southbank Sinfonia in their 2019 season and has performed with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Geneva Chamber Orchestra, Geneva Sinfonietta, and the Singapore Lyric Opera Orchestra, amongst others.
Notable international festival appearances include a recent début at the legendary BBC Proms in 2019, Anghiari Festival (Italy), Paléo Festival Nyon (Switzerland), Singapore International Festival of Arts, Young Euro Classic (Germany), and the Rome Chamber Music Festival. Sean’s performing activities have brought him to various key venues such as the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Barbican Centre, Royal Albert Hall, Victoria Hall Geneva, Singapore Esplanade Theatres, Konzerthaus Berlin, and Palazzo Barberini in Rome.
To help inspire the next generation of musicians, Sean’s pedagogic activities include coaching and residency engagements with the Britten Sinfonia Academy, Marlborough College, Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School, In Harmony Lambeth, and the Wind Bands Association of Singapore. He has accumulated years of experience engaged as an instructor by various Singaporean state and independent schools.
Musical activities aside, Sean enjoys reading, cooking, taking long walks, and exercising outdoors. He speaks fluent English, Mandarin, and French.
Sean holds an MA in Music Performance from the prestigious Haute Ecole de Musique-Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique de Genève and a BMus (Hons) from the National University of Singapore. His teachers were Romain Guyot, Benoît Willmann, Ma Yue, and Marcel Luxen.
